Meditation Chau Gong

Each gong is individually MADE TO ORDER and our artisan, mostly Buddhist themselves takes great pride in ensuring that each piece made by hand is of the highest approved craftsmanship standard. They are all highly skilled and have carried on making this piece of meditation equipment for temples that date back from 5000 years ago.

Chau Gongs are made of copper-based alloy, bronze, or brass. It is almost flat except for the rim, which is turned up to make a shallow cylinder. Our 10-inch (25 cm) gong, for example, rim extends about 1⁄2 inch (1 cm) perpendicular to the surface. The main surface is slightly concave when viewed from the direction to which the rim is turned. The center spot and rim of a Chau gong are left coated on both sides with the black copper oxide that forms during manufacture; the rest is polished to remove this coating.

WHAT ARE THE SIZES?

Chau gongs range in sizes, our listing offers 3 sizes, smaller sizes, 25 and 35cm, and a larger size of 50cm. The offered sizes we think are most suitable for home use practices. We recommend Gongs with a larger diameter of more than 50cm be used in outdoor, open area practices. If you wish to purchase a larger size or have a different type of Gong in mind, please let us know. Our shop stocks Symphonic, Wind, and Javanese/Bali Gongs also.
